Luck ran out of some suspected kidnappers believed to have been terrorising some towns and villages around Ayetoro-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State On Sunday morning as they were apprehended by some residents of the area.
Nigerian NewsDirect gathered that two butchers popularly known as meat sellers went to their abattoir very early in the morning to slaughter their cows as usual, when some suspected kidnappers who have laid ambush ahead of their arrival in the area accosted them at gun point.
It was also gathered that one of the victims received severe machete wound on his leg when they engaged the suspected kidnappers in physical combat apparently to set themselves free from the hands of the kidnappers.
The Chairman of Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Hon. Adeola Ayodimeji who spoke on a telephone interview with our correspondent confirmed the development, adding that the two butchers overpowered the suspected kidnappers and held one of them while the other one flee the scene to the nearest bush.
Hon. Adeola Ayodimeji, further stated that the two men were interrogated after they were held to tell the people their mission in the area, adding that they were unable to give a satisfactory answers, stressing that one of them explained that they have a leader who lives in the city.
He further said that they put a call through to their leader who said that the two men were drivers that ply Lagos to Kaduna for commercial purpose.
He also added that the meat sellers held one of the suspected kidnappers and did not allow him to run away till they alerted other members of the community who later handed the suspect to police.
Nigerian NewsDirect also gathered that In the process of arresting the bandit, his cohort who had earlier run away was also nabbed and handed over to police.
Police Public Relations Officer in the State, ASP Abutu Sunday when contacted confirmed the development adding that there was a distress call to Ido/Osi Police Divisional headquarters this morning (Sunday) at 04:30hrs. that two persons were under attack while they were on their way to their abattoir.
He said the DPO mobilized his men to the scene where two people were actually found there; Adebayo Johnson and Wasiu Adewole were the victims whom he said were visibly assaulted and macheted by the two suspects who were Arrested and currently in Police custody.
ASP Abutu Sunday, who further revealed the names of the two suspects as one Abubakar Oseni and Mubarak Bello also explained that the victims in their statement narrated that the two Suspects forced them to follow them to an unknown destination which they vehemently resisted.
The development he added resulted into a full-blown fight between the two parties, as the victims received several machete wounds in their bodies.
The PPRO Said investigation has commenced in the earnest into the crime, adding that the suspect will be charged to Court as soon as the investigations into the matter are concluded.
