Digital access: Tijani unveils project to connect LGs across the country
Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani has unveiled a project targeting the digital connectivity of all the 774 local governments in the country.
Tijami in a post said this is in a bid to foster inclusive development and enhance access to digital infrastructure within the government.
This groundbreaking initiative aims to provide seamless internet connectivity to all 774 Local Government Secretariats spread across Nigeria.
The project will harness the robust infrastructure of NigComSat1R and Galaxy Backbone, capitalising on their existing networks to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Tijani however expressed enthusiasm about the project’s potential to generate significant employment opportunities. It is estimated that Project 774 LG Connectivity will directly create at least 300 jobs during its nationwide deployment, with the possibility of additional job creation stemming from the amplified digital access.
Dr. Tijani emphasised that the project aligns perfectly with the Ministry’s Strategic Blueprint and represents a pivotal step toward fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate of delivering efficient public services at the grassroots level.
By bridging the digital divide and bolstering connectivity at the local government level, the initiative aims to empower communities, streamline administrative processes, and enhance citizen engagement.
