The Deputy Leader of the Senate and lawmaker representing Kwara South senatorial district, Architect Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, has condemned the viral video which claimed that the purported beneficiaries of the Digital Empowerment program did not receive their laptops, describing such video as unwarranted and misleading.
Reacting to the viral video, a legislative aide, Olaitan Adeyanju, described the video as disinformation aimed at portraying the successful empowerment program in a bad light.
However, the peddler and originator of the viral video has since recanted his earlier publication and tendered an unreserved apology in another video made available to newsmen by Adeyanju.
This comes against the backdrop of the successful four-week ICT training and Empowerment program for 350 youths from the Kwara South senatorial district.
The beneficiaries, drawn from Ifelodun, Offa, Oyun, Irepodun, Isin, Oke-Ero, and Ekiti local government areas of Kwara State, had earlier participated in Digital Literacy/STEM, PCB Basic, Multimedia Development, and Web Development training at One Innovation Hub Offa (ONEIH), Offa, Offa local government area of Kwara State.
In addition, youth groups including KWAYORG, Igbomina Youth Assembly, Offa Youth Council, Ibolo Youth Development Association, Ekiti Navigators, and Oke-Ero Youth Movement on Thursday, October 17, 2024, received laptops during the Advanced ICT Training held at Monarch Palace Hotel, Ganmo, Ifelodun local government area.
The laptop distribution marks the end of the four-week-long digital training and ICT empowerment program facilitated by Senator Oyelola Ashiru in collaboration with One Innovation Hub Offa (ONEIH) and the National Productivity Center.
In his brief remarks, Senator Oyelola Ashiru urged beneficiaries to utilize the training and laptops to boost their productivity.
The Senator, who was represented by his Personal Assistant, Hon. Hammed Omuiyadun, said the mega digital empowerment program is aimed at reducing unemployment and providing sustainable means of livelihood for beneficiaries.
