Democracy Day: Imo will be safe again – Anyanwu

Samuel Anyanwu, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo, has admonished the people of the state to continue to keep faith with democracy despite prevalent security challenges.

Senator Anyanwu, who is also the National Secretary of the PDP, promised to ensure a better and safer Imo under his administration.

In a statement on Monday commemorating the 2023 Democracy Day, the flagbearer lamented “the numerous challenges caused by insecurity and poor economic policies” of the current administration.

Anyanwu expressed sadness that Imo, which was number one in the areas of hospitality and security in the South-East region, “has become a shadow of itself and turned into a theatre of war for reasons yet unknown”.

Anyanwu said he was aware that many people’s businesses and livelihoods have crumbled and collapsed due to the insecure environment witnessed in recent years.

“Your lives are threatened and properties destroyed but rest assured that peace will be restored when the righteous takes over. I heartedly assure you that Imo will be safe again.

“Despite the challenges and the losses, I appeal to you in the name of God to remain focused, law-abiding, and continue to play your role in consolidating democracy until our state is finally salvaged,” he said.

The PDP candidate saluted Imolites for their commitment to take the state “out of the dungeon and return it to its pride of place as the Eastern Heartland known for hospitality and investment-friendly ambience”.

Anyanwu appealed to them to “resist pressures to compromise the collective zeal of the masses” to elect a people-oriented government during the November 11 governorship election.
