Delta Police rescue two kidnapped victims, recover firearms

The Delta State Police Command successfully rescued two individuals who had been kidnapped, recovering them from their captor’s hideout in a forest located in the Umunede community, Ika North East Local Government Area.

According to Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, the Commissioner of Police for the State, the rescue took place after the victims were abducted along the Asaba-Benin Expressway.

Mr. Olufemi elaborated, “On August 31, 2024, at approximately 2:50 AM, based on reliable intelligence regarding the kidnapping of two individuals on August 30, 2024, along the Asaba-Benin Expressway, I instructed the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad to secure the victims’ release and apprehend the perpetrators.

“He detailed that the anti-kidnapping unit, led by its commander, executed a meticulous operation in the Umunede forest area, where the victims were being held captive.

“Upon realising that the police were closing in, the kidnappers fled the scene, leaving the victims behind.

The victims were safely recovered and reunited with their families. 

Also, law enforcement recovered one Dane gun and ten live cartridges during the operation.

The police are continuing their efforts to capture the suspects who escaped.
