Delta monarchs endorse health insurance for vulnerable indigenes

Traditional rulers in Delta State have thrown their weight behind the Contributory Health Scheme, urging citizens to purchase health insurance for vulnerable community members.

The Ohworode of Olomu kingdom and the Ovie of Ogor kingdom praised Olorogun Ejiro Dumasi for sponsoring 100 indigent persons, including 50 from each kingdom, under the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative.

The monarchs called on other well-meaning individuals to emulate Dumasi’s kindness, ensuring access to quality healthcare for more vulnerable residents in the Urhobo kingdom and Delta State.

Addressing the people during the flag-off ceremony, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta said the state government had subsidized healthcare for its citizens, and paid over 7 billion naira so far for the treatment of its residents since the inception of the scheme, noting that health is wealth, and with the payment of 7,000 naira, each citizen can enjoy affordable and quality healthcare for a year.

Dr. Akpoveta commended the sponsor, Olorogun Ejiro Dumasi for enriching the lives of his people, saying that it was a demonstration of Olorogun Dumasi’s belief in the principle of Collective and Shared Responsibility, which the MORE agenda of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration encapsulated.

He urged Deltans of means, at home and in the diaspora, to imbibe the same principle by  keying into the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative of the DSCHC by registering the vulnerable and indigents in their locality, while also reiterating the commitment of the commission to enrolling more Deltans.

The Ohworode of Olomu kingdom, Uhurie Osadjere 11, and the Ovie of Ogor kingdom, Igere 1, with the latter represented by the President General of Oviri-Ogor community, Chief Monday Otobrise, as well as the Admin Secretary of the Olomu Palace, Chief Simon Ebrobota, were both full of praise for their son who took it upon himself to improve the health indices of the people.

They commended the state government for the initiative and called on other citizens to emulate the gesture to make life more bearable for citizens in the harsh economy.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the sponsor and promised to make use of the scheme.
