…Delta Deputy Governor receives in audience delegation of Utagba-Uno Inotu-in-council, promises infrastructural development
The people of Utagba-Uno in Ndokwa-West LGA on Thursday, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency, Sir Monday Onyeme – the Deputy Governor of Delta State in Government House, Asaba to congratulate him on his assumption of office as Deputy Governor of Delta State, especially as the very first to emerge from Ukwuani ethnic nationality since the creation of mankind.
The leader of the delegation – Rear Admiral Mike Onah (Rtd) ably represented by the duo of Chief Agaga Akpati Ph.D, and Onotu F. O. Emegwali in his address, thanked God for making it possible for Onitsha-Ukwuani/Utagba-Uno son to emerge as a Deputy Governor in this current political dispensation, expressing absolute confidence that with the combination of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori – as Governor of Delta State and with Sir. Monday Onyeme as his Deputy, Deltans, especially Ukwuani ethnic nationality will witness massive and speedy developments in all areas, because of their individual proven track records as well as their constant connects with the people in the grassroot.
The delegation also used the medium to appeal passionately to the Governor to use his position to ameliorate the long neglect of Utagba-Uno people by the previous successive governments in Delta State, because it is an indisputable fact, that, in Ukwuani ethnic nation, Utagba-Uno has the largest land mass and the largest population that could even pass for a separate Local Government Area, yet, no meaningful developments in the area to justify its abundant resources.
Amongst the prayers submitted to the Governor through the Deputy Governor, includes but not limited to; 1. The construction of Onitcha-Ukwuani/Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road 2. Utagba-Uno electrification 3. The upgrades of the three poor Utagba-Uno Health Centres to Cottage Hospitals 4. Flood controls in Etua, Umusam, & Umuseti and provision of proper drainage systems in any streets to be constructed subsequently anywhere in Utagba-Uno, as the ones already constructed do not have, including the one in Ndemili.
Responding, His Excellency, Sir. Monday Onyeme thanked the delegation for finding time to visit him in demonstration of their joy towards him with regards to his ascension to the office of the Deputy Governor of Delta State, emphasizing that, truly, Onitcha-Ukwuani and Utagba-Uno is one and indivisible – and this government will surely prioritise the construction of roads networks in the area, and those in other areas in Ukwuani nation generally, because there are few or no roads in the whole of Ndokwa nation.
He further reassured that the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili road in Utagba-Uno axis has already been awarded by the last administration and skeletal work has already commenced, he will also see to its funding, going forward, even as the Eweshi/Utagba-Uno axis, will also receive attention upon the completion of the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili ends.
Furthermore, Sir. Monday Onyeme reiterated that the provisions of electricity and good hospitals for the people of Ukwuani nation cannot be overemphasised, that, the M. O. R. E agenda of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s Administration will definitely make life meaningful for all Deltans.
He concluded by saying that, flooding is a natural disaster owing to the degradation of the environment, and people should do their bits by clearing and cleaning their surroundings to minimise its effects, while the State Government will also look into the provision of drainages for the already constructed streets and the subsequent ones, when budget is made, to prolong the lifespans of the roads.
