Delta commissioner charges transport operators on covid-19 guidelines

Delta State Commissioner for Transport Hon. Oviemuno Oghoore has charged all Transport line operators to comply with all COVID-19 health safety guidelines.

Oviemuno gave the charge in-view of the second wave of the disease disease in the country as well as the concern for Delta State residents to stay safe.

The commissioner made it clear that for sometime now, many transport line operators, motorists, organizations and individuals had relaxed all the rules of wearing face mask, keeping social distance and having a bucket of running water with soap and sanitizers.

He said that the state government had warned that it was now unlawful not to wear face mask in all public gathering, including public vehicles and in ceremonies.

Oviemuno added that the personnel of the Department of Land Transport would carry out unscheduled visits to motor parks to monitor the level of compliance concerning the new directive, adding that Marine Transport would not be an exception.

He stated that commercial tricycle (Keke) operators were to ensure that their passengers put on their face mask and adhere to the directive of carrying only two (2) passengers.

The transport commissioner emphasized that even private vehicles with their occupants should endeavour to wear their face mask to help prevent the spread of the disease.

He warned that any transport line operator or motor park without the bucket of running water with soap, hand sanitizers and non-observance of the rules and regulations of keeping social distancing, and not adhering to the prescribed number of passengers would be sanctioned accordingly.
