Dave Umahi joins senate presidency race

Senator-elect for Ebonyi South senatorial district, Dave Umahi has joined other senators to battle for the position of Senate presidency.

Umahi’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Francis Nwaze made this known in a post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.

He wrote, “Governor David Umahi, CON, indicates interest in contesting for the President of the Senate of the 10th Senate”.

There are indications that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC may zone the position of the 10th senate president to the Southeast.

The party may also pick a Christian senator for the position, having the president-elect, Bola Tinubu and his vice, Kashim Shettima as Muslims.

News recalls that the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, on Tuesday warned that since Nigeria is a secular state, it would not be right for persons of the same religious faith to occupy the first three highest political offices in the country.

Kalu who spoke with journalists on Tuesday, stated that it was his turn to become the President of the Senate, noting that he is the most ranking Senator of the APC from the South East.
