The national caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to prosecute his friends who allegedly collected money from a former National Security Adviser, Lt-col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).
The party said this was the only way the President could convince Nigerians that the war against corruption was not partial. The spokesperson for the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, stated this in a statement on Friday.
Adeyeye particularly mentioned Col. Jafaru Isah (retd.), who was alleged to have returned some money to the Federal Government.
The former military governor was listed among those who took money from Dasuki.
But while Dasuki and some of those who allegedly took money from him during the regime of former President Goodluck Jonathan are currently being prosecuted for corruption, Isah, a member of the All Progressives Congress, was said to have just returned money to the Federal Government.
Adeyeye said that while the PDP was not against the prosecution of anyone found wanting for corruption, he nevertheless said it was wrong for the Buhari government to prosecute only members of the PDP.
Adeyeye said, “What has happened to Jafaru Isah, a political friend of President Buhari who was also accused of collecting money from the former National Security Adviser?
“None of these people are standing trial and none of them are in court for prosecution because they are members of the APC. We, therefore, further call on the APC-led administration to stop the persecution of political opponents in Nigeria for its false corruption chase.”
Adeyeye, said, “It is obvious today to all and sundry in Nigeria and in the Diaspora that those under trial by the court on corruption charges are the perceived enemies of President Muhammadu Buhari; his party, the APC; and political enemies and rivals of some APC leaders in the country,” he added.
Adeyeye further said that the spotlight of the APC was now on a former Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema.
Adeyeye described Shema as a political son of the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who he said defeated Buhari in the 2007 presidential election on the platform of the PDP.
He added that Shema defeated the candidate of the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party, a supposed choice of President Buhari in the governorship election in Katsina State in both 2007 and 2011.
To further allude to his belief that Shema was being persecuted, Adeyeye added that as the governor of Katsina State, Shema had supported the choice of former President Jonathan against Buhari in the 2015 presidential election.
He insisted that the duo of Ministers of Transportation and Science and Technology, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and Dr. Ogbonaya Onu should also be prosecuted because of the allegation levelled against them by two suspended Supreme Court judges.
He also demanded the prosecution of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal, over allegations of corruption against them.
