Darma praises Yar’Adua, knocks leaders for shunning Islamic teachings

President of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Human Development Centre, Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma has described the late Yar’adua as an excellent transformational leader.

He eulogised the former Nigerian leader during the 13th memorial lecture organised by the Fix Under Grassroots Aids Initiative, NAN reports.

Yar’Adua died in office barely three years after he assumed office under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Darma recalled that as governor, Yar’Adua was dedicated to transforming the state, and also had plans to move Nigeria to greater heights.

He said the Islamic principle of governance is the best model as it makes the system workable and curbs challenges.

The NNPP deputy governorship candidate further demanded that governments take “responsibility for societal decay”.

“Unlike what Islam teaches, leadership is no longer based on trust…leaders and those led no longer trust one another.

“Islamic provisions on leadership emphasised that leaders should be trustworthy, transparent and accountable,” Darma added.
