Damy Adenekan cries out over threat to his life
…After his brother’s in-law was crudely murdered
The family of Adenekan in Oke Odan has cried out loud over the missing of their son, one Damy Adenekan whom they claimed they have not seen for weeks going to months with the fear that the young man must have been killed.
According to Mrs. Yemisi Jibade, the brother to the wife of the victim, Damy Adenekan, he explained.
“My name is Damy Adenekan I am brother to the wife of the man that was killed by policemen. My sister’s husband is a gentle easy going young man.
“ He was shot by policemen. When I heard of it I went to young people of Oke Odan, I found many people, I went to the Giunto who are in charge of the youth, they told me that the policeman had killed the husband of my sister. I tried to understand what had happened, why my brother-in-law had been killed but they told me that the police had accidentally killed him. He had been slapped, they said, on his way from work, and had responded in kind. When I arrived he was already dead, with other policemen trying to to calm my sister down. The second day the Police have nothing to suggest to investigate the case. On the third day, we went to the place where my brother-in-law was killed, when we arrived the person in charge talked to us, and my sister started shouting saying she won’t go without the body of her late husband, but the police declined and refused to talk about her husband. One of the policemen slapped her. Imagine, a policeman slapping a pregnant woman. In the process she fell and it angered me. I jumped on the policeman and made him drop the weapon, and so the police started shooting too, one of the policemen died, we threw the body of the policemen in the water and all of us fled.
“I went to the forest and began my journey, going to village. However, at the village, my wife informed me that the police had gone to look for me at my house and that they had arrested many young people. I got on one of the trucks I found and my journey began, I went to Niger. At first, the driver didn’t see me, then when he saw me and he heard my story, he helped me. My wife advised me not to return. In Niger, I lost my phone and so the driver helped to go to Libya.
On the reason why he fled the country, he explained, “I left to save my life because the policemen are also after my life.
”Unknown men came to attack my family house looking to kill me. They injured many people because I was nowhere to be found. They called themselves mafia and said anywhere they get me my life is in danger.
When asked the exact reason his brother-in-law was slapped by the police, he claimed ignorance.
“I don’t know why, because he was coming back from work. What I heard is that a policeman came to him, and accused him of been a thief, which he opposed, saying he wasn’t a thief, which led to the altercation, and he was shot. The person who shot him knew what he did, so it wasn’t an accidentally killing.
“We went to Ministre of Paine C Territorials for R Crotone of Inter Proteins R. We went to him to solve all the problems of the communicadol, we understand that the police did not want to tell us the truth and the youth manager was very angry. We were about 25.
“I don’t know why they didn’t want to give us the body.”
When asked the mission of his brother-in-law at Mesa Junction, he explained thus, “ It was a nearby roundabout. There the police were doing the checks, but was it the first time you met the police in the roundabout? It was not the first time.”
He also claimed he didn’t know if there is any trial against him in Nigeria, “I no longer know anything about the situation. But my wife told me that my life is in danger if I returned to the village.”
