Cultists planning to unleash terror in Ogun – Police

As Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Fitr across the world, the Ogun State Police Command said it is not unaware of the activities of cultists planning to unleash terror on the people of the State.

But, the police assured Ogun residents that it has put in place a “robust security arrangement” to ensure a hitch-free celebration to mark the end of the 2023 Ramadan fasting.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said: “the command is not oblivious of the recent upsurge in the violent activities of some hoodlums masquerading as cultists to unleash terror on innocent people of the state.”

To this end, Oyeyemi said elaborate tactical and covert policemen had been strategically deployed by the Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Babakura Muhammed.

Abimbola said the team of policemen were deployed across the length and breadth of Ogun with a mandate to ensure a crime-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

According to him, operatives of SWAT, PMF, Anti Kidnapping and Anti Cultism, Tactical Response and Intelligence units have also been deployed to nip in the bud any violent crime that may arise before, during and after the Islamic festival.

He added that there would be 24-hour surveillance patrol around various worship places and event and recreation centres in Ogun.

It was said that men of the Federal and Safer Highway Patrol have also been directed to ensure the safety of commuters on the road.

While felicitating with Muslims in Ogun, the Acting CP urged the people to reflect on the reasons for the one-month fasting period and be good ambassadors of Islam by ensuring peace at all times.

He urged residents to alert the police whenever and wherever they notice strange or suspicious faces, gatherings or movement in their areas, saying security is everybody’s business.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Friday and Monday as public holidays to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
