Cultists invade Ogun communities, two dead, vehicles vandalized

No  fewer than two persons were feared dead on Thursday in  coordinated attacks between two rival cult groups in Ijoko communities of Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The incident happened at about 22:00 hours of the day, where cars and motorcycles were vandalised in serial attacks that lasted for about two hours.

The windscreen of a new Camry car parked in front of Nigerian NewsDirect head office was damaged by the cultists.

Nigerian NewsDirect gathered that the two victims of a yet to be identified cult group were shot by another rival cult group in what looked like a reprisal attack.

It was also gathered that the hand of one of the victims  at  Esuyago, a border  village between Sango and Ijoko was chopped off and taken away by the killers.

Meanwhile, residents of the community ran for cover at the sound of sporadic gun shots, making the streets to look deserted. The attacks led to an early closure of activities in the communities.

Residents returning from work were robbed with guns during the two-hour incident. The community leaders who recognized the cultists are afraid to report to the Police for fear of attack.

However, all efforts to speak with the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi proved abortive as at the time of filing this report. Residents will be waiting for an official statement from the Police Command for assurance of their safety in the area.
