Cultism killings: Sagamu goes spiritual, holds traditional rites today
Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta
Sequel to unabated cult killings in Sagamu in the last one month, the palace of Akarigbo of Sagamu has announced performance of traditional rites in the town from 4p.m., today Thursday to combat the evil reported to have allegedly led to at least death of seven souls within space of a month.
It would be recalled that the town had also resorted to performing traditional rites about two weeks ago in the wake of renewed cult clashes allegedly between Eiye Confraternity and Aiye when about five souls were said to have allegedly being killed.
It was gathered that this recent one started on Monday and at least two lives had been lost to the dastardly act.
The notice of the traditional rites which was circulating on social media for the better part of yesterday, Wednesday has it that the popular Akarigbo road from Cinema road junction/Total Petrol station to RSS roundabout will be closed to vehicular and human movement today from 4p.m. to 4a.m. of Friday when the traditional rites would be performed.
The statement read, “This is to inform the general public that Akarigbo Road from Cinema Road Junction/Total Petrol Station up to RSS Roundabout will be closed to all vehicular and human movements between 4p.m., Thursday, 7th July, 2022 and 4a.m. Friday, 8th July, 2022. This is for the purpose of traditional rites in view of recent security situation in Sagamu.
“While the Palace of HRM Akarigbo of Remoland regrets the very short notice, the total co-operation of all people of Sagamu is urgently required.”
A community leader who craved anonymity confirmed the authenticity of this notice to our Correspondent saying that the traditional rites were to help fight the protracted cult killings in the town.
