Cult clash claims three lives in Ondo community

Three people have lost their lives in a clash that occurred between two rival cult groups in Owo, headquarters of the Owo Local Council of Ondo State.

The clash occurred at about 9 p.m., with its cause yet to be ascertained as of press time.

According to sources, the clash created tension within some parts of the community, with residents hurriedly rushing indoors.

The Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, who confirmed the clash, said his men had been able to restore calm after they moved to the scene of the crisis.

“About the rival cult clashes that took place in Owo, our men are already out, and we are trying to arrest the culprits, so as to bring the situation under permanent control,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that the command was informed about the incident.

She, however, said police operatives could not locate the exact area where it happened in the community.

She maintained that the residents could not help the police with information about the incident.

“Our men are currently on patrol within Owo; I spoke with the Area Commander and the DPO; no one in the town is ready to report or even assist with information.

“However, the anti-cultism men have been deployed in the town,” she said.
