In a bid to ensure sustainability of the legal standard in handling detainees in custody, the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee (ACJMC) has taken steps to train the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Divisions on the use of first aid treatment and the importance of keeping the detention facilities in good sanitary condition.
Speaking during the event, The Executive Secretary of the Committee, Mr. Sulayman Dawodu said, “The whole idea is centered on enhancing the knowledge of handling suspects with cases of health challenges before seeking the aid of a professional medical personnel.
“This is our way of intervention to ensure that custody management is pursued as it relates to the Administration of the Criminal Justice Act by ensuring that detainees are treated humanely, irrespective of their offences.”
Dawodu who was represented by Mrs Genevieve Ike Johnson, Senior Supervising Solicitor ACJMC Police Duty Solicitor Scheme (PDSS) noted that the committee is not just acting on a supervisory role but a collaborative and partnership system to aid the right administration of criminal justice process in Nigeria.
Also speaking during the training, Dr Idris Keji was apt in explaining the correct use of the various of the First Aid Kit.
ACJMC alongside the First Aid Kits distribution and training also supplied cleaning and disinfecting materials to the Police Divisions visited.
Some of the beneficiary stations were Duste Alhaji, Karu, Asokoro, Trademore Estate, Lugbe and Apo, Police Divisions.
