The Kaduna State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), with the support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), donated 3,965 cartons of hand washing soap to Jema’a Local Government Area of the state.
Yahaya Adamu, Coordinator, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) unit in the council, stated this at the presentation of the items on Thursday in Kafanchan, Jema’a.
Adamu disclosed that the items would be distributed to 265 communities so far declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) in the area.
He listed other beneficiaries to include the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jama’atul Nasir Islam (JNI) as well as selected primary schools and health facilities in the area.
The gesture is to further stem spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the area.
The Coordinator warned against diversion of the items, stressing that erring officers would be sanctioned.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the council, Mr Peter Averik, described the gesture as a welcome development.
Averik, represented by Amos Samaila, the Secretary to the council, tasked ward officers to ensure just and fair distribution of the items.
While commending the gesture, Averik urged UNICEF to sustain its health and sanitation interventions in the area.
