COVID-19: Oyetola charges parents on protecting wards

Osun State Governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola has urged parents and guardians to take adequate care of their children amid the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
Oyetola made the plea at a meeting with Parent Teachers Association of Ataoja School of Science, Osogbo.
The Governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, also said parents must enlighten their children on COVID-19 preventive measure to guide them against the deadly virus.
According to him, his administration is committed to providing quality education to the children but the parents also have a lot to do in assisting these children in becoming good ambassadors of the State.
“I want to implore parents to take adequate care of their children against the second wave of COVID 19 which is considered deadlier.
“Parents should also endeavour to teach their children all the preventive measures against the deadly virus.
“The government of Osun is committed to providing quality education to the children but I want to appeal to you parents to give adequate support to the need of your children.
“You must equally support the efforts of Oyetola’s administration in curbing all forms of children and gender-based violence such as rape, female genital mutilation, trafficking, child abuse among other menaces which permeate the modern society.”
Speaking at the event, the Principal of Ataoja School of Science Osogbo, Akinloye Oyebamiji appreciated the presence of the government at the meeting, saying it is a morale booster for both parents and teachers.
Mr. Oyebamiji said the school has always supported the government in the area of making sure that their students adhere strictly with the COVID-19 directives by using nose mask and cultivating the habit of regular hand washing.
He promised that the school will intensify more effort to make their wards observe the laid down protocol for the containment of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
The Chairman of Parent Teachers Association in Ataoja School of Science Osogbo, Comrade Femi Ogunsanya said the enlightenment from the government has indeed widened the horizon of Parents and even the teachers on their responsibility towards their wards against the dangers of coronavirus and the safety measures to follow.
He, however, appreciated the governor’s representative for giving a cue on children and gender-based violence as well as ways to curb the societal menace.
