Mr Ahmed Baba-Yahaya, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Health, says government had intensified the training of health workers to curtail the spread of Covid-19 in the state.
The commissioner, who disclosed this on Thursday, in Lafia, at the opening of a 3-day training workshop for health workers across the state, emphasised that the training would give them the knowledge they needed to effectively curb the spread of the pandemic.
The 3-day training, organised by Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), in conjunction with the state government, was for health workers in General Hospitals across the states, under the supervision of the Ministry of Health.
He stressed that the training programme was important because health workers were prone to contracting the virus, due to their contact with victims, pointing out that given the second wave of the virus and its ravaging effects, it was necessary for the workers to update their knowledge on how to tackle the spread of the virus.
The training would focus on how to make referrals to the appropriate channels, for treatment, the commissioner said, while commending the partner for the training and reiterated the state government’s readiness to put in place measures, to reduce the spread of the virus.
Earlier, Director, Public Health, Dr Ibrahim Alhassan, said the training would go a long way in broadening the knowledge of the health workers.
He called on them not to entertain fear, but remain committed to their duties and ensure that the new ideas to be learnt from the workshop, were shared with their colleagues
Such knowledge, Yahaya noted, was on the second wave of COVID-19 and urged them to pay proper attention, so as to complement government’s efforts at reducing the spread of the virus.
A Resource person at the training, Dr Easter Audu, of Dalhatu Arah Specialist Hospital, Lafia, stressed that the health workers had a lot to do in educating their patients.
She tasked them to always protect themselves by observing personal hygiene, to guard against the virus.
