The Coca-Cola Foundation, philanthropic arm of Coca-Cola Company, with its implementing partner Red Cross Nigeria, FCT chapter has handed over medical supplies to the Federal Capital Territory, Public Health Department in Abuja.
Public Affairs Manager, Nigeria bottling company North Region and Abuja, Mohammed Aminu who presented the supplies said the foundation is making this donation as part of it’s contribution to fight the pandemic in the country.
According to Aminu, the Foundation has invested over N200 million in medical supplies, that is being distributed across the country through Red Cross Nigeria for frontline workers.
The Acting Secretary Health and Human Services Secretariat Dr. Mohammed Kawu thanked the foundation for the gesture.
“We appreciate the Coca-Cola foundation for this support It is indeed remarkable, i am impressed with what they’ve done. It is a good donation to us despite the fact that the cases are going down, we still need to enter the communities and do more testing”.
Director of Public Health Dr. Florence Okechukwu speaking exclusively with Nigerian News Direct , disclosed that the Public Health Department is the engine room for the response of covid -19 and they are responsible for the total response of covid-19.
According to her, Public Health Department is responsible for the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE’s) to numerous laboratories and sample collections sites.
“we provide PPE’s to private, public, military and paramilitary hence the donated items are of utmost importance to the department”
Okechukwu noted that parents, teachers and schools need to educate their peers, children on preventive measures against the pandemic.
The medical supplies donated were essential protective kits such as boots, face masks, hand gloves and hand sanitisers, safety jackets which are increasingly needed for healthcare workers.
