Court strikes out 10bn defamation suit against Taraba Truth and Facts

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has struck out a case by Danjuma Usman Shiddi, a former member of the National Assembly, against the Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper and its publisher Oloye Ayodele Samuel.

Shiddi also known as Danji SS, a former lawmaker representing Wukari-Ibbi Federal Constituency, had sued the Taraba Truth and Facts paper claiming N10 billion in damages for what he described as a defamation of character.

The paper, had, published a report that a campaign vehicle was caught with firearms.

But Justice Edward Okpe struck out the suit, saying it is completely devoid of merit and ought not to have been filed in the first place.

Justice Edward Okpe in his ruling said the case lacked substance.

The Publisher of Taraba Truth and Fact Newspaper Oloye Ayodele Samuel hailed the court’s ruling saying it is a good development and a sign of a fair judicial system.

Counsel to Taraba Truth and Fact Newspaper Barrister P.D Pius congratulated the defendant for the victory.
