Court sentences two to 2 years imprisonment for stealing armor cables

An Ota Magistrate’ Court in Ogun State on Tuesday sentenced two men, Nurudeen Hamzat, 20 and Bashir Sheu, 31, to two years imprisonment for allegedly stealing Armour Transformer Cables valued at N300,000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. O.L Oke, sentenced the convicts to two years imprisonment without an option of fines, after they pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against them.

Oke said that the prosecutor had proven beyond reasonable doubts that the convicts were guilty of the charges brought against them.

The convicts, whose address was not provided at the time of filing this report are facing a three-count charge bordering on stealing, conspiracy and damages.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector G.O Adebayo, said that the convicts committed the offenses November 11 at about 4.05 a.m. at Igamode, Ota.

Adebayo said, the convicts conspired among themselves to steal an armour transformer cable valued at N300,000 belonging to Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Ota Business Unit.

She said the convicts also damaged the armour transformer cables while trying to steal those items.

The Prosecutor said that the offenses contravened Sections 390(9), 451 of the Criminal code, Laws of Ogun 2006.
