Court sentences man to life imprisonment for defiling six-year-old sister in-law

The Jigawa High Court sitting in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area has on Monday sentenced Idris Munkaila (Dan Asabe) to life imprisonment for defiling his sister in-law and infecting her with HIV/AIDs in Gwaram Local Government Area.

The defendant was arraigned before the court on 26th of June 2017 for allegedly luring a six-year-old girl and having sexual intercourse with her at Sara Town.

Presiding judge, Justice Musa Ubale said the offence is contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code Law of Jigawa State.

In proof of the case, the prosecution counsel presented five witnesses, and tendered two exhibits and the defendant testified for himself.

“It was the mother to the victim that observed a whitish discharge coming from the private part of the victim and Upon enquiry the victim told her mother that it was the defendant who had sexual intercourse with her.

“The defendant previously had extra marital affair with the sister of the victim when she was about to get married to her suitor and during pre-marital HIV test, she was discovered to be HIV positive.

“The sister of the victim informed her parents that it was the defendant who infected her with the HIV. The marriage was cancelled and the sister of the victim was married to the defendant based on arrangement by their families,” the prosecution said.

Ubale found that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, thereby convicted the defendant and sentenced him to life imprisonment as provided under the Jigawa State Penal Code Miscellaneous Amendment, 2014.
