An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, on Tuesday, sentenced a 19-year-old man, Adekunle Emmanuel, to one year in a correctional centre for housebreaking and stealing.
Emmanuel, whose address was not provided, is being accused of breaking into a house and steal valuable item worth N115,500.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge of burglary and stealing preferred against him.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 23, 2020, at about 2.00 a.m. at No.33 Arinko road, Yebade, Ota.
He said that Emmanuel broke into the house of the complainant, Adedayo Makinde, and stole a Techno Spark 4 worth N45,000 and N70,500 cash, totalling N115,500.
The prosecutor said that the convict was caught by the Vigilante group while committing the crime.
He was subsequently handed over to the Police.
Adaraloye said that the offences contravened sections 390(9) and 413(2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adeyemi, convicted Emmanuel without any option of a fine.
