Court remands unemployed man for attempted theft

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday remanded an unemployed man, Daniel Olaniyan, 32, who pleaded guilty to attempted burglary to be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Odubayo, remanded the defendant following a guilty plea to conspiracy and intent to commit felony.

Odubayo adjourned the case until July 25 for facts and sentence.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Samuel Mishozunnu told the court that the defendant and some persons at large committed the offence on July 13 at No 1 and No 3, Amodu St., Orile-Agege, Lagos State.

Mishozunnu alleged that Olaniyan attempted to burgle some houses at Amodu St., with the intention to steal.

He said that Olaniyan was caught in the act.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections, 286 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Reports state that Section 286 stipulates three years jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.
