Court remands two men over alleged robbery in Kano

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano, on Friday, remanded two men, Bello Ahmed, 31 and Aminu Abubakar, 23, in a Correctional Centre for robbing a man of his properties worth N355,000.

The police charged the defendants with four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, attempt to commit culpable homicide and joining unlawful assembly armed with dangerous weapons.

The Magistrate, Farouk Ibrahim-Umar, ordered that the defendants be remanded in a Correctional Centre, pending the issuance of legal advice by the Kano State Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).

He adjourned the case until Feb. 2, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mr Auwalu Dandago, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Nov. 14, 2021 at Hotoro Quarters in Kano metropolis.

He alleged that on the same date at about 4:00 a.m., the defendants conspired with four others now at large, and armed themselves with a hammer, axe, knife and cutlass.

“The defendants trespassed into the house of one, Mukhtar Abdullahi, situated at Hotoro Quarters, hit him on the head with a hammer and an axe.

“As a result the victim sustained grievous injury and robbed the victim of his Samsung galaxy phone valued at N50,000 and one GoTV decoder.

“One Samsung laptop worth N80,000, two pairs of sandals valued at N50,000, five set of clothes -N75,000, four caps – N50,000 and cash sum of N50,000, totaling N355,000,” he said.

The prosecution argued that the offence contravened Section 6(a)(b), 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap RIL LFN, 2004 (As Amended), as well as Sections 229 and 103 of the Penal Code.
