Court remands three suspects for alleged robbery

Three robbery suspects have been remanded by an Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court over an alleged armed robbery.
The accused persons are Isah Lawal, 28, Moses Keffi, 38, and 43, Oluwafemi Odeyemi.
The trio committed the offence on December 31, 2020 around 3:00am at Osu/Ile-Ife Expressway, Ile-Ife.
The Prosecutor, ASP Joseph Adebayo, told the court that the accused persons conspired among themselves to commit a felony to wit armed robbery.
Adebayo said that the trio armed themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons and robbed one Seyinde Egbeyemi of one Toyota Previa car with Reg. No: FGB 406 XA valued N1.370,000.
He added that other items such as one 180 cartons of frozen turkey, valued N3.6 million; one Tecno mobile phone valued N30,000 and a cash sum of N25,000 were robbed.
According to him, the accused persons armed with guns and other dangerous weapons also robbed one Olawumi Gbenga of one Itel mobile phone valued N5,000 and cash sum of N16,000.
The Prosecutor stated further that the accused persons also robbed one Adunoye Ismail of two mobile phones valued N60,000 and a cash sum of N7, 200.
The accused persons also robbed one Ibrahim Azeez and Sanusi Yahaya of a cash sum of N5,000 and one IVECO Truck with Reg No: DTN 113 XA, two mobile phones valued N38,000 respectively.
The offence committed contravened sections: 1(1), (2)(a), (b) and (6) b of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R12 Vol 24, Laws of Federation, 2004.
Magistrate Abiona Adebayo did not take the plea of the accused persons, saying that his court lacks jurisdiction to try armed robbery case.
The Magistrate asked the prosecutor to duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
He, therefore, ordered the remand of the accused persons in Nigerian Correctional custody.
The case was adjourned till April 5, for mention.
