Court remands man over alleged shop breaking, stealing

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Wednesday remanded a 24-year-old man, Olusegun Afeez, over alleged shop breaking and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp Onah Glory, told the court that Afeez committed the offences on Feb. 3, 2023, around 6:00 a.m., at Itasin Street, Modakeke.

Glory said that the defendant broke into the shop of one Irorun Silifat, with intent to commit felony.

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant stole the sum of N150,000; one Tecno Pro 5 mobile phone, valued at N59,000; one small Tecno mobile phone, worth N9,000, as well as some MTN, Glo and Airtel recharge cards, all valued at N100,000, belonging to Silifat.

According to her, the offences contravene sections 383, 390(9) and 413 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of breaking in and stealing.

Magistrate A.I. Sarumi, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ile-Ife Correctional Centre.

Sarumi adjourned the case, which is to heard at Modakeke Chief Magistrates’ Court, until Feb. 15.
