A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered that a 35-year-old man, Bashir Ibrahim, who pleaded guilty to defrauding his business partner of N900,000 to be remanded in a correctional centre.
Ibrahim, who lives in Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Kano, was charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Magistrate Musa Ibrahim-Umar adjourned the matter until Oct. 7, for sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Umar Tahir, informed the court that Fatima Suleiman of Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano, reported the matter at Rijiyar Zaki Police Division on Sept. 19.
Tahir alleged that sometime in June 2021, the complainant gave the defendant N900,000 to buy goods from Niger Republic.
The defendant, he said, converted the money to his personal use.
The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
