Court remands man for allegedly stealing motorcycle

A Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja, on Tuesday, remanded a 38-year-old unemployed man, Doctor Kigudu, in a correctional centre for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

The Newsmen reports that the police charged Kigudu, of Durumi area of Abuja, with theft.

The Judge, Mr Umar Mayana, deferred bail for the defendant and adjourned till Feb. 15, 2023 for hearing.

Mayana ordered that the defendant be remanded in Keffi Correctional Centre, pending investigation.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the matter was reported at Karu Police Station by Samson Yakubu of Masaka, Nasarawa State.

Osho told the court that on Dec. 9, the complainant was riding a delivery Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, with registration number: KUJ 671 WQ on Karu bridge when it was snatched by hoodlums who escaped in a vehicle.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the said motorcycle was recovered from the defendant but he denied stealing it.

He said that the defendant, however, confessed that he found it on Airport road.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 286 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
