Court remands man for allegedly raping 14-year-old girl

One Sunday Okonkwo has been ordered to be remanded by an Ikeja Magistrate Court at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl
DSP Kehinde Ajayi, who was the police prosecutor, told the court that Okonkwo allegedly committed the offence sometime in 2022 at Abaranje, Ikotun, Lagos.
He said Mr Okonkwo had carnal knowledge of the minor; an offence which he said contravened the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015).
Presiding Chief Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje refused to take Mr Okonkwo’s plea before ordering the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
He adjourned the case until February 6.
The offence is punishable by life imprisonment according to Lagos State laws.
