Court remands man, 33, for alleged membership of secret cult

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, ordered the remand of a 33-year-old man, Ayeni Akinyemi, in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti for alleged membership of a secret cult.

The suspect, whose address was not provided, is being tried for alleged cultism.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Elijah Adejare, told the court that the suspect committed the offence on May 19 at about 10:30 a.m at Ikole-Ekiti.

He said that the suspect was found to be a member of Black Axe “Aiye” confraternity.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 41 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand him in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The plea of the suspect was, however, not taken.
