Court remands man, 28, over alleged armed robbery

A Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, on Monday remanded a 28-year-old man, Olisa Anachuna, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over his alleged involvement in a case of armed robbery.

The defendant, who resides at No. 15, Bonny St., Mile 2, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery, to which he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.

Justice Yetunde Adesanya subsequently ordered that Anachuna should be remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until June 14 for trial.

Earlier, the State Counsel, Mr Olayemi Shofolu told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some others still at large,  on May 26, 2018, at 6:20p.m., at Kirikiri Road, Apapa, Lagos.

Shofolu said that the defendant robbed one Mr Nnamdi Ezedialo, of his belongings at gun point.

“Anachuna and his accomplices robbed the complainant of N72,000 cash, two mobile phones, an Infinix Hot 2 and a Tecno phone all  valued at N52, 500.

“The victim was on his way from work when the defendant dispossessed him of his belongings while holding a pistol,” the prosecutor said.

Shofolu said that the offences contravened Sections 297 (2) (a) and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

He, however, urged the court for a trial date in view of the defendant’s plea.

Reports state that the defendant was first arraigned and remanded by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on July 12, 2018.
