Court remands man, 23, over alleged burglary, theft

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a 23-year-old man, Afolayan Ayomide, in a correctional facility  in Ado-Ekiti for alleged burglary and stealing.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for burglary and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between Jan. 21 and 25 around  2:00 a.m in Iyin-Ekiti community.

Leramo alleged that the defendant broke into the house of Osanipin Oluwafemi and other tenets.

He said that the defendant stole two cell phones, Infinix smart 3 valued N52,000 and and  Infinix smart cell phone valued at N65,000.

The prosecutor said the defendant broke through the iron burglary, tore the net and  gained unauthorised access  into the apartment through the window.

Leramo  said that the offences contravened Sections 322(a) (c) and 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Penal  code  of EKiti State 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused  in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The trial Judge, Mr Saka Afunso, ordered the remand of the defendant in a correctional centre, pending legal advice.

He adjourned the case until March 23 for mention.
