Court remands man, 22, for alleged armed robbery

A Magistrate’s Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Thursday remanded one Jimoh Mohammed, at the Correctional Centre in Oyo for alleged armed robbery.

Mohammed, 22, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

Magistrate O. I. Osho, however, did not take the plea of the suspect but referred the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

She adjourned the case until April 4 for the DPP’s advice.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Foluke Adedosu, told the court that Mohammed and others at large, on Feb. 1, at about 1. 45 p.m. at Ajayi Street, Iyana Church, Ibadan, allegedly conspired with one another to commit felony to wit: armed robbery.

Adedosu said the accused with others at large on the same date, time and place, while armed with gun and cutlass, robbed one Victor Ugonor of iPhone7x and handset worth N125, 000.

She added that Mohammed allegedly stole Tecno phone worth N8, 000, two rechargeable torchlights and one Fero phone power bank worth N10, 000.

She said the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 6b of the Robbery and Firearms laws of Nigeria, 2004 and Section 1 (1) (2) (a) (b) of the criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.
