Court remands labourer for allegedly stealing electric wires worth N1m

A Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday ordered that a 23-year-old labourer, Shansudeen Gambo, who allegedly stole electric wires, should be remanded.

The police charged Gambo, a resident of Katampe Extension, with theft but he pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Saminu Suleiman, ordered that Gambo be kept in a correctional centre at Suleja until Feb. 13, when the case would be heard.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr. Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant, Labaran Musa of Katampe Extension reported the matter at the Dawaki police station on Dec. 22.

Ogada told the court that on Dec. 21 the defendant was caught while he was removing electric wires valued at N1 million used in connecting light in a building belonging to Sarkin Hausawa.

The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation the defendant made a confessional statement.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of Penal Code
