An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Thursday, remanded three suspects: Muyiwa Abereijo, 28; Sunday Clement, 25 and Joseph Emmanuel, 20, over alleged armed robbery.
The Prosecutor, ASP Joseph Adebayo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence between Jan. 4 and Feb. 2 at Ile-Ife.
Adebayo said that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit a felony to wit: armed robbery.
He added that the defendants armed themselves with gun and other dangerous weapons to rob one Adeleke Abayomi of one Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, valued at N260,000.
The prosecutor added that the defendants also robbed, with guns and other weapons, one Usman Yusuf of his motorcycle, valued at N250,000.
He stated further that the defendants unlawfully had one locally-made gun in their possession.
According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 1(1), (2)(a)(b), 3(1) and 6(b) of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R11, Vol. 14, Laws of Federation, 2004.
The defendants’ pleas were, however, not taken on the four-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and possession of locally-made gun, while the Defence Counsel, Mr Okoh Wonder, appeared for them.
The Magistrate, A. A. Adebayo, explained that his court lacked the jurisdiction to try armed robbery cases.
He, therefore, asked the prosecutor to duplicate the defendants’ case file for onward transmission to the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
Adebayo ordered the remand of the defendants in a correction centre and adjourned the case till April 8, for mention.
