Court remands 2 men over alleged armed robbery, kidnapping

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of Olowo Oreoluwa, 20, and Ajibola Oluwaseun, 22, at the correctional centre in Ado Ekiti over alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.

The defendants of unknown addresses are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.

The Prosecutor, Insp Caleb Leramo, told the Court that the defendants committed the offence on March 25 at about 3:30 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

Leramo alleged that the defendants conspired among themselves, robbed and kidnapped a 22-year-old man, Akinwade Peter.

He said according to victim’s statement at the police station, the defendants came to his house alongside four unknown persons, abducted and took him to an unknown destination.

He said they later demanded a ransom of N100, 000 and threatened to kill the victim on failure to comply.

The prosecutor said that Akinwade put a call across to his sister and explained what happened to him, she sent a sum of N50, 000 to his Kuda account, which he later transferred to the account account of his abductors before he was released.

Leramo noted that the offences contravened Sections 6,1(2) a of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act. Cap.398 Laws of the Federation Nigeria, 2004 and Section 3 (a) of the Kidnap and Terrorism (Prohibition) Law of Ekiti State, 2015.

The prosecutor urged the Court to remand the defendants in the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The pleas of the defendants were not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, ordered the remand of the defendants at the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.

He adjourned the case till April 7 for mention.
