Court remands 2 men for alleged burglary, theft
An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that two men, Ojodale Akpali and John Sunday be remanded in custody for allegedly stealing of goods worth N470.000 from a shop.
Akpali, 27, and Sunday, 30, whose addresses were not provided, were dragged to the court and facing a two-count charge of break-in and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Dec. 14, 2020 at 11:30 p.m at Emure-Ekiti.
Olasunkanmi said that the defendants burgled a shop belonging to Mr Boniface Ogenyi and stole provisions, wears, foodstuffs and N45,000 cash.
He said the stolen goods were valued at N470,000.
Olasunkanmi said the offences contravened Sections 411 and 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor then urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre, pending a legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The pleas of the defendants were not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, ordered the remand of the defendants in an Ekiti state Correctional Centre.
Anoma adjourned the case until Feb. 22 for mention.
