Court jails man three months for stealing mosque generator
A Sharia Court sitting at Rigasa, Kaduna State on Wednesday sentenced one Hussaini Ismail to three months in correctional facility for stealing a generator belonging to the mosque.
The Judge, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta, gave the ruling after the accused pleaded guilty to the offence bordering on criminal trespass, theft and cheating.
He, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine and ordered that he paid the sum of N50,000 as compensation for the stolen generator.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Sambo Maigari, said that one Bashir Abdulaziz had reported the matter to the Rigasa Police Division on March 18, 2022.
“The nominal complainant reported that on Feb. 20 at about 10:00 a.m., one Hussaini Ismail of Tudun Barde, Rigasa, Kaduna State, came to the mosque and deceived the mosque members.
“He told them he wanted to repair the mosque’s faulty generator for free as a service to God but refused to return the generator,” he said.
The prosecutor said the generator was worth N120,000 and prayed the court to compel the accused to pay and punish him in accordance with the law
