A Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan has ‎granted the prayer of divorce filed by a housewife, Tawakalitu Sanusi and her estranged husband, Olaide after settlement failed.

Delivering judgment, the court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo held that there was a valid marriage between Sanusi and Olaide based on the evidence tendered by the duo and so pronounced the union dissolved in the interest of peace.

Akintayo noted that both the petitioner and the respondent were no longer in love with each other since they have been living separately for some years now.

The court granted custody of the three children to Sanusi since Olaide was a transporter and might not have enough time to adequately cater for them.

“Consequently, the respondent is ordered to pay a monthly feeding allowance of N20,000 for the upkeep of the children.

“The petitioner and the respondent shall be jointly responsible for their education and other welfare,” the court  said.

The court  also granted the order restraining Olaide from harassing threatening and interfering in the private life of Sanusi henceforth.

Earlier, Sanusi stated that she was forced to seek for advice because he was irresponsible and would not work to earn a living .

“My lord, my husband turned down all the available job opportunities provided for him by my father and probably due to  pride.

“After losing his white collar job, I pleaded with him to learn a trade or get a job, but he was only interested in an office occupation.

“For instance, I got him a security job at the University College Hospital (UCH), but he refused,” she said.

However, Sanusi denied some of the allegations leveled against him.

He consequently prayed the court to grant him custody of the three children.
