On Monday, a Sharia Court in Kano State ordered the detention of two women in a correctional centre following their assault on a neighbour.
Sa’adautu Abubakar, 33, and Amina Abdulkadir, 20, residents of Mandawari Sabon Titi in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano, were charged by the police with intentional harm and intimidation.
Upon being charged, both defendants pleaded not guilty.
Judge Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar then ordered their detention at the Goron Dutse correctional centre in Kano.
Earlier, Prosecutor Insp Abdullahi Wada informed the court that the complainant, Firdausi Aliyu, who also lives in Mandawari Sabon Titi, reported the incident to the Mandawari Police Station on August 28.
Wada stated that the complainant had a dispute with the defendants over some money.
He reported that the defendants assaulted Aliyu with a pestle and bit her hand, causing severe injuries.
The prosecutor stated that the offence violated Section 158 of the Penal Code.
The judge adjourned the case until September 18 for further proceedings.
