Court breaks up marriage over mother-in-law marriage impedance
A Customary Court sitting in Mapo in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday broke down a relationship between Shakirat Omowonuola and Ahmed, over obstruction by her mother-in-law in the marriage.
In her reaction to the separation request, Onowonuola, asserted that her mother-in-law transformed her into a ‘slave”.
Conveying judgment, the President of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade held that guardians should fill in as great counselors to their wedded youngsters and not be specialists of distabilisation.
Odunade censured Ahmed’s mom for meddling in her child’s marriage.
He, subsequently, disintegrated the marriage and granted authority of the lone kid to Omowonuola.
Okunade requested Ahmed to pay N5,000 as youngster uphold.
Prior in her appeal, Omowonuola said:” I left my wedding home in light of the fact that my mother by marriage transformed me into her slave.
“My better half quit accommodating me and my four-year old child. My master, Ahmed left me and went to Lagos State subsequent to losing his employment in Ibadan.
“His mom never provided food for me. I needed to rely upon my folks to eat. I worked for his mom to have the option to give food to my youngster however she wouldn’t pay me my wages,” she claimed.
Ahmed clarified that he petitioned for legal separation since his better half was engaging in extramarital relations with a neighbor.
He claimed that Shakirat was at that point pregnant for another man.
Ahmed asked the court to give him authority of the lone youngster since she was an unsuitable mother.
