A 43-year-old man, Adekunle Abodunrin was arraigned on Tuesday at a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos, facing charges of fraud amounting to N1.8 million.
Abodunrin, whose address was not disclosed, is facing three counts of fraud, theft, and disturbing the peace.
He entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 2, 2023, at Owode Plank Market, Luri Bus Stop, Badagry, Lagos.
“Okuoimose stated that the defendant received N1.8 million from the complainant, Mr. Kasim Saka, to assist him in purchasing planks from Ondo State but did not follow through with the transaction.”
He alleged that the defendant misappropriated the funds for his personal use.
“Okuoimose stated that the defendant acted in a way that could potentially disturb the peace by fraudulently obtaining money from the complainant.”
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. A. J. Aina, granted the defendant bail set at N500,000, requiring two sureties in the same amount.
Aina said, the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case until November 11 for further mention.
