One Oluwatimilehin Olorunfunmi, a 30-year-old businessman, faced charges of assault and threats to life in an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is charged with three counts: misdemeanour, assault, and threat to life.
ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, the prosecutor, told the court that the defendant, along with an accomplice who remains at large, committed the offences on April 26 at around 2:00 p.m. at Market Square, Okitipupa.
Orogbemi stated that the defendant assaulted the complainant, Mrs. Abiodun Akinyemi, by slapping her during an undisclosed argument.
He added that the defendant also threatened to kill her.
Orogbemi noted that the offences violated Sections 517, 351, and 86 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate Mr. Philip Akinlosetu granted the defendant bail in the amount of N200,000, with one surety required to post a similar sum.
The case was adjourned until August 29 for further hearing.
He also specified that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide proof of two years of tax payment to the state government.
