Couple land in court for indecent interference with dead body

A couple, Okunade Ashifat, 60 and Mariam Ashifat have been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly cutting the head and hands of a corpse.

The accused persons were earlier arraigned in March 2020 but their charges were substituted.

The Police Prosecutor, John Idoko informed the court that the accused persons and others still at large on March 21, 2020, around 1 PM at Dagbolu area, Ifon conspired to commit a misdemeanour by cutting the hands and head of Rasheed Tiamiyu.

He noted that the offence committed was contrary to and punishable under Section 242 of 5 Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

However, the couple pleaded not guilty to the two counts charges bordering on conspiracy and indecent interference with the dead.

The defence counsel, Yemisi Akintajuwa pleaded with the presiding magistrate to admit the accused persons to bail.

In his ruling, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara said the accused persons should continue enjoying the terms of bail given in the previous charge.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till January 8, 2021 for hearing
