Coup plot: Search your conscience — BMO tackles PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) should stop being in denial, search its conscience and deal with being haunted by its inglorious past.

The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) gave this advice in its reaction to PDP’s comments on the allegation by the Presidency that some Nigerians are pushing for the overthrow of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. The PDP had earlier described the Presidency’s statement “as a resort to blackmail in the face of failure.”

In a statement  signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke, BMO said the PDP is aware of its inglorious past and, based on the determination of President Muhammadu Buhari to rebuild the country, the party is afraid of its shadow, and is now using the insecurity in the country to further its political goals and aspirations ahead of 2023.

“We consider it not only impolitic, uncivilized and unpatriotic but a calculated attempt by the PDP and its agents to reap from the misfortune of victims of insecurity in the country. We make bold to say that despite the evil intentions of the opposition party, President Muhammadu Buhari has remained focused on combating insecurity in the country.

“As can be seen by all Nigerians, President Buhari is unrelenting in decimating the terrorists, kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements tormenting the lives of Nigerians.

“We dare to say that the PDP is deliberately exacerbating the security problems in the country by activating all its organs to negatively comment on the security situation in Nigeria. From the PDP National Executive Council (NEC), National Working Committee (NWC),  Governor’s Forum among others, the opposition party has celebrated the misfortune of the victims of insecurity in the country.

“They should therefore search their conscience, for while they are pointing one finger at the Federal Government, the other four fingers are pointing in their direction as far as the plot to unseat a democratically elected government is concerned.”

The BMO further advised the PDP to believe in the democratic ethos and contribute its quota towards solving the security challenges in the country, rather than feast on the unfortunate situation through unnecessary media posturing.
