Council boss harps on hazard of roadside trading

The Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government in Epe Division of Lagos State, Mr Sesan Olowa, has urged traders and hawkers to stop trading on roadsides and walkways, while appealing to them to relocate to the newly-built market stalls.

The Chairman, who spoke on Tuesday, said that such an effort was to ensure the safety of the traders and prospective buyers.

He said it was hazardous selling on the roadside saying from there they could be victims of vehicular and other accidents.

Olowa appealed to the traders to relocate into the already made clams in the market.

He also told them that their continued selling on the roadsides would obstruct the Lagos State Government’s planned railway construction project along the axis.

He added that the Eleko area had always been a melting point for accessing Ibeju Lekki in its glorious days.

He said that travellers also used to connect other parts of the country through the town’s central motor park in years past.

The Council boss assured them that he would speak with the developer on the need for them to spread the rent payments over a reasonable period of time.

Olowa also promised them that the local government council would also play its own role in other areas of the needs of its people.
