Corps members donate sewing machine, hair clippers, others to Orphanage Home

The legal Aid members, Community Development Service (CDS) group of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)  has provided vocational training equipments and sensitization for Orphans in the Ijamido Children’s Home.

According to the group, the empowerment programme held on during the weekend in Ota, Ogun State was in line with the NYSC scheme to support the less privilege in the host community.

The programme was tagged “Effect of Assault and Abuse on Mental Health” was aimed at enlightening the children on various degrees of assault and abuse ranging from physical, Mental, Sexual, Drug and others.

Earlier, the Legal Aid CDS members had paid courtesy visits to Olota of Ota Palace, Supreme Court and two Secondary Schools.

At the Supreme Court, detailed information were rendered to the group on the vagaries of information of effect of assault and abuse on Mental Health, citing several cases that had happened including the yet to be decided cases.

For time factor and other reasons, the group, however,  raised the funds without depending on sponsorship from NGOs.

As a result, Corps members provided sewing machine, two hair clippers, writing materials and face masks to Ijamido Children Home.

During their previous sensitization in two different secondary schools, packs of face masks and writing materials were distributed amongst students.

According to the Secretary, Mrs Toke Ismail, over 173 orphaned, motherless and fatherless children, abandoned who would have otherwise, been uncared for, have been taken care of by Ijamido Children’s Home.

“With the support of Medicare Hospital, free healthcare treatment has been provided for the less privilege children, as well as sponsored education to private schools.   “We don’t practice adoption or marry each other here. Before a child can be accepted into the home, a police extract must have been provided and after collecting the child, we wait for a period of six month, if no one comes to claim the child then we can proceed,” she said.

She appreciated God Almighty over the lives of corps members through a year of National service, thanking the NYSC body from the State Coordinator, to LGI, and the government staff.

She further presented the corps members with an appreciation letter.

At the end of the programme, the President of Legal Aid CDS, Oladipupo Olayemi, gave a closing remarks.
